Can I register to vote on Election Day?


Yes. Michigan allows same-day voter registration with proof of residency.


What counts as proof of residency?


Examples include:


  • Michigan ID or driver’s license
     
  • Utility bill
     
  • Bank statement
     
  • Lease or mortgage document
     
  • Pay stub
    (Printed or digital accepted)
     

How can I vote absentee?


  1. Request absentee ballot
     
  2. Receive ballot by mail
     
  3. Complete and sign
     
  4. Return by mail or drop box
     

Ballots must be received by 8pm on Election Day.


Can I vote early in person?


Yes. Ann Arbor offers early in-person voting at designated locations during the early voting window.


I’m a student / renter — can I vote here?


Yes. You can register and vote using your Ann Arbor address if you live here.


Do primaries matter?


Absolutely! In Ann Arbor, many races are effectively decided in the primary. Your August vote directly shapes who appears on the November ballot.

Election Day: Tuesday. August 4, 2026 (7am–8pm)


Register by Mail/Online: ~July 20, 2026


Same-Day Registration: Available during early voting and on Election Day


Absentee Ballots Available: 

Starting late June

Absentee Request Deadline: 5pm Friday before Election Day


Official calendars are published by the City of Ann Arbor Clerk and the Michigan Secretary of State.

Ward 1 includes downtown, Old West Side, Water Hill, and parts of the Northside.
